Johanna couldn't be sure what had upset Drex in the wee hours of the morning. Drex wasn't himself. She'd never seen him this depressed. He wouldn't talk to her. Just this ire silence.
"What happened?" She took him by the shoulders. This couldn't be over just yet. Now could it? He wanted to be with her, didn't he?
They'd had a quiet Thanksgiving, a very calm and uneventful Christmas. It had just been the two of them. Jonah hadn't spoiled it once. They were good together, even Drex had said as much.
"Nothing." Drex could barely spit out before his emotions got the best of him.
"It has to be something? What did I do?" She winced as if he had to tell her something. He was her best friend. Lover too.
"Nothing." Drex kept shaking his head. "Its not you."
"Is it Jonah? What did he do?" She pushed for answers, pushing at his shoulders. "Don't you know we have to share everything. Good or bad."
"I saw Leon coming from his room," Drex's eyes watered.
"Leon?" This was about him. It was true. She could see it in his face. His whole body. He still had feelings for him. "So? It might not mean a thing?" She didn't want to go there and think Leon was capable of such...such an audacity.
"It could only mean one thing," Drex looked at her. He was fighting tears. He was angry. Still in love. Perhaps.
She hugged Jonah then. She couldn't let go.
"Just leave him behind. You have too." She felt herself crumbling then. She'd left her past behind her. No way could she go back to Anthony now. He was her future. Couldn't he be of certain of it as she was?
She felt him choking on tears, but she felt his arms around her, and that was all that she needed. He was all that she needed. Didn't he know? She was all that he needed.
